Justin Sabilla, Chartiers Valley hockey

Last week: A senior forward, Sabilla had a hat trick in a 6-1 win against Gateway. He also was selected to play in the PIHL Class AA All-star game for the second consecutive season.

Check this out: Heading into the week, Sabilla led all players in Class AAA, Class AA or Class A in goals with 29. He has five hat tricks in 11 games for Chartiers Valley, which is ranked No. 3 in PIHL Class AA.

In a typical high school hockey game, if someone gets a hat trick, how many hats are thrown onto the ice? Not really many. I haven't seen it this year for me; I think one or two maybe.

Have you ever been at a Penguins game when someone had a hat trick? Yeah, for sure, I've seen a few.

Did you throw a hat? No, I wasn't wearing a hat at the time. Otherwise, I probably would have.

How do you celebrate after you score a goal? I usually jump up into the glass.

What's the deal with all the injuries the Penguins have sustained recently? I don't know, but it's pretty bad. Most of our top players are out ... Hopefully Geno doesn't get injured now, too.

Has the window of opportunity for the Steelers to win Super Bowls closed? I feel like they're still good how they are now. They've added a few young guys in the past few years. I still feel they can do it next year if they're all healthy.

Do you watch Jersey Shore? Absolutely not. Never watched one episode. Not into that stuff.

Erin Waskowiak, Bishop Canevin basketball

Recently: Waskowiak scored her 1,000th career point Dec. 29 to help the Bishop Canevin girls basketball team defeat Trinity Christian.

The skinny: Waskowiak, a junior guard, is one of the top players in the WPIAL. She averages 21 points per game for the Crusaders, who are ranked No. 2 in Class AA. Waskowiak was named the Post-Gazette's Class AA Player of the Year as a sophomore, and was an all-section choice each of her first two seasons.

Your have a big showdown with (section rival and top-ranked) Seton-LaSalle next Monday. How pumped are you guys? We're all really excited. We all get real anxious to play them.

• Did you set any individual goals this season? Just to beat Seton and to execute more.

Best player in the WPIAL? (Seton-LaSalle's) Naje Gibson.

Do you have any scholarship offers? Yeah. Villanova and Drexel.

What other schools are recruiting you? South Florida, Syracuse, DePaul and Pitt.

Do you have a certain brand or style of basketball shoes you wear? Jordans.

Did you buy the new Concords? Yeah, I did. I got them the day after they came out.

Wiz Khalifa or Mac Miller? Wiz Khalifa.

How surprised were you that the Broncos beat the Steelers? I was really surprised. That was a crazy pass. I kind of felt bad for the Steelers.
