Pittsburgh City Council today asked Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to consider tapping former Councilman Doug Shields for the Citizens Police Review Board.

Councilmen Ricky Burgess, Corey O'Connor and Bill Peduto submitted Mr. Shields' name for consideration.

Last week, council sent over three names -- Thomas Kolano of the South Side, Thomas C. Waters of Highland Park and Joelle E. Tighe of Mount Washington -- for consideration. Mr. Ravenstahl was to select one for a seat on the board.

The chief clerk's office today said Ms. Tighe's name was sent to the mayor by accident and that Mr. Shields was the intended nominee.

Mr. Shields and Mr. Ravenstahl often tangled, so his selection is considered a long shot.

Mr. Shields last year decided against a council re-election bid and ran an unsuccessful campaign for district judge. Mr. O'Connor succeeded him on council.
