The husband of a Westmoreland County middle school teacher found strangled to death last week was arrested this afternoon and charged with homicide.

David Frank Stahl, 41, was arraigned before District Judge James N. Falcon in Youngwood after being taken into custody by state police in Greensburg. He is charged in the strangulation of 37-year-old Rebecca Stahl, whose body was found on the side of road Friday in Unity.

Mr. Stahl said he last saw his wife on Monday morning, but court paperwork indicated Mrs. Stahl was killed two days prior.

He said that he returned home Monday evening to find his wife, who was home from work recovering from surgery, gone even though her car remained in the driveway.

He never reported her missing. Mrs. Stahl's father made a report Tuesday morning.

State police executed a search warrant at the Stahl home Friday, after her body was found.

Court records suggest Mr. Stahl behaved roughly in the marriage.

Mr. Stahl was charged with harassment for pushing Mrs. Stahl. She had also filed for a protection from abuse order against him at one point.

Mr. Stahl was admitted to Excela Westmoreland Hospital on Friday night for an unclear reason and remained there this afternoon before state police took him into custody.
