Chartiers Valley was commended for entering a self-reflection process aimed at resolving differences and enhancing education through a strategic planning process that involved the entire school community.

The board members involved in this effort are Beth McIntyre, Pam Poletti, Jeff Choura, Wendy Huntoon, Robert Kearney, Bridget Kelly, Debra Rice, Jamie Stevenson and Sandra Zeleznick. Also lauded were previous board members Patti Figorski, Patti Frey, Herb Ohliger and Mary Lou Petronsky.

Other boards that have earned this honor include Beaver Area Pine-Richland and Plum. Chartiers Valley Director Jeff Choura said the district has won this honor twice before under different administrations.


Kindergarten preregistration is under way with an online form available at www.montourschools.com.

The district will begin accepting kindergarten registration packets on March 12. Packets can be submitted to Kathy Putas, student registrar, in the high school, 223 Clever Road, Robinson. Information: 412-490-6500, ext. 1617, or putask@mail.montourschools.com to make an appointment.

In May, the district will host a kindergarten round-up at each elementary school: Burkett, May 7, Forest Grove, May 8, and Ingram, May 10.

n The district has a Weather Bug station, an online weather center camera mounted on the high school that shows weather conditions at the parking lot and stadium. It also has a five-day weather forecast for the area.


The public is invited to the David E. Williams Theatre Production of "Once On This Island Jr.,' which will be presented by 7th and 8th graders at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the David E. Williams Middle School auditorium, Porters Hollow Road, Kennedy.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students.

Moon Area

The middle and high school collected more than $1,000 in memory of Michael Walter, an eighth grade science teacher in the middle school who died Dec. 11 in a traffic accident in Ohio. The money was donated to the Beaver Quarterback Club, where Mr. Walter was a football coach.

• The high school drama club will present "Guys and Dolls," at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Moon Area High School auditorium.
