The National Weather Service says snow showers and squalls may persist this morning throughout the Pittsburgh metro area.

In a special weather statement, the forecasters said a line of lake-effect snow moving through Allegheny County could continue to drop snow through 9:30 a.m., causing slick driving conditions and poor visibility. The snow already has caused longer-than-usual backups on the three parkways.

The advisory covers Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Indiana and western Westmoreland counties.

After temperatures fall to near 20 tonight, the weather service is forecasting a rapid warmup, with a high of 47 on Tuesday and 61 on Wednesday.
