A federal grand jury in West Virginia has indicted a Monongahela Valley man on interstate drug distribution charges following an arrest last week that netted 43 pounds of hydroponic marijuana and $133,000.

The grand jury in Clarksburg named Ryan Rieger, 35, of Lincoln, in a three-count indictment in connection with distributing marijuana from January 2011 to last week.

Mr. Rieger was arrested last Thursday by police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration at a Wheeling hotel, where they said he had arranged to buy the marijuana from two couriers. Police in Illinois had stopped the couriers outside St. Louis on Wednesday, and DEA set up a controlled buy using one of them as their informant the next day at the hotel.

The U.S. attorney's office has seized the cash, two duffel bags of marijuana, Mr. Rieger's pickup and about $4,000 agents recovered from his house on the same day as the arrest.

Mr. Rieger's operation had already been the subject of a Pennsylvania state police investigation, which is continuing.
