Long Island defeats Robert Morris, 90-73 in NCAA Tournament bid

For the second year in a row, Robert Morris came up one game short of an Northeast championship and an NCAA Tournament bid. The Colonials lost to Long Island 90-73 Wednesday, falling to the Blackbirds in the title game in back-to-back years.

The Blackbirds also beat Robert Morris 85-82 in overtime in last year's championship game.

Julian Boyd scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Long Island, which won the NEC title for the sixth time in its history. Jason Brickman also had a double-double for the Blackbirds, netting xx points and dishing out xx assists.

The Colonials had no answer for Brickman defensively, as the point guard weaved through Robert Morris' defense to get easy buckets and find open teammates.

Lucky Jones had 14 points off the bench to lead the Colonials, who fell behind when Long Island made a 15-2 run late in the first half and never bounced back. They closed the gap to five with just over 15 minutes to play, but ultimately couldn't get stops down the stretch.

Velton Jones scored just 10 points on 3 of 12 shooting. He was injured on the first basket of the game and seemed to be affected for the rest of the night.

Long Island will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year, while Robert Morris must now wait to see if it receives a bid from another postseason tournament.
