The future of a proposed skate park in Dormont remains unclear.

Council tonight tabled a vote to advertise an ordinance to ratify a 2010 motion approving the park, and the subsequent contract, for Pitcher Park so the borough can get a second or even third legal opinion.

Last month, solicitor Deron Gabriel wrote in an opinion that because neither the motion nor contract were put forth in the form of an ordinance, they are not binding.

Council also voted 4-2-1 against creating a citizen committee to propose alternatives to the skate park.

Pitcher Park Foundation President Mary Pitcher plans to donate the BMX biking, skating and skateboarding park in memory of her two young adult sons, who drowned on a camping trip in 2008.

Tonight she provided council with a March 3 opinion she sought from Trevose, Pa., parliamentarian Ronald W. Satz that states "a motion to rescind the original motion is also out of order at this time."

Mr. Gabriel resigned last month but will stay with the borough until a replacement is hired. Council President Bill McCartney said the board will interview a firm Tuesday night in executive session and hope to secure a new solicitor by week's end.
