Arson squad investigators said a one-alarm fire this morning in Observatory Hill that injured a woman and destroyed her home was deliberately set.

Pittsburgh police Detective Michael Burns of the arson squad said the fire, first reported at 1:17 a.m., was an act of arson but he declined to say where the fire began due to the investigation.

Firefighters battled the blaze at 220 Watson Boulevard for 3 1/2 hours before bringing it under control, Detective Burns said. The house was a total loss.

A resident, whose name was not released, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital with smoke inhalation.

The fire spread next door to 218 Watson where it caused damage to the front porch, the porch roof and all electrical service, Detective Burns said.
