Food News

• Union Pig & Chicken, East Liberty, is now open Mondays through Saturdays from 5 p.m. to midnight; www.unionpgh.com, 412-363-7675.

• Congratulations to Pittsburgh's 2012 James Beard semi-finalists. Tom Baron and Bill Fuller of the Big Burrito Group made the long list for best restaurateur, and Kevin Sousa of Salt of the Earth, Union Pig and Chicken and Station Street Hot Dogs is competing for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic. Finalists will be announced March 15.

Edible events

• The Crested Duck Deli, Beechview, is holding a duck butchery class 7 p.m. March 13 and 2 p.m. March 24. Participants will learn how to quarter a whole duck, smoke a duck breast, confit a leg, and make duck stock and rendered duck fat; $75 per person.
