New survey gauges the least and most expensive cars to insure

While it's not the flashiest ride on the road, the Toyota Sienna minivan shines brightest for drivers looking for the biggest bargain on car insurance.

The four-cylinder LE model took top honors as the cheapest vehicle to insure among some 900 reviewed by the price-comparison website Insure.com.

In all, five minivans placed near the top of the least-expensive rankings for the 2012 model year, including the Dodge Grand Caravan and Honda Odyssey. Pickup trucks and SUV/crossover vehicles also made a good showing.


Ride premiums
The four-cylinder Toyota Sienna LE is the cheapest 2012 model to insure, according to rankings compiled by the price-comparison website Insure.com. The company looked at insurance rates nationwide for roughly 900 models.

The data do not indicate why certain vehicles landed at the top of the least expensive list, said Amy Danise, editorial director at Insure.com.
